thank you thank you how are you very Mr Kaden Quinn the Quinn star AKA King Kaden 26 thanks very much for having me I'm very glad to be here on the podcast finally this is the podcast that I'm most excited about two days before you turn 18 son how you feeling feeling okay I'm just recovering from a bit of a cold cough well we've all had it for a week right been really bad so you know I wanted you to do this because a lot of people won't know but you were The Man Behind the podcast and all the corporate videos yeah it's cool to be in front of the camera for once yeah well you know for those people that don't know you maybe just give a quick introduction as to who you are what you're all about okay so I'm Kaden quid I'm uh Paul's son and I just graduated high school just finished my IB Program um I'm an aspiring filmmaker and I've just finished a long long journey and at school you did a lot of film work which is what I like the most I also did a lot of literature and anthropology lots of stuff so I'm really looking forward to just going on uh to that next part of the journey not just School related studying for Math and chemistry and all just sort of specializing in what I want to do yeah good for you it's been a long hard journey um you you probably don't know this but I read a book years ago called outliers by Malcolm Gladwell and um I I read it when you were struggling at school and one of the things that he talks about there are two key things he talks about becoming an expert like a black belt in something you have to do it for 10,000 hours which I think is very real and true but then he talks about when you're born in the Academic Year so in England in the US you start school on the 1st of September my birthday is 18th of September so I would have been one of the oldest but in Singapore is the 1st of January and your birthday is on the 26th of November so you're I'm one of the younger ones yeah that's the thing and I think the transition from going from when we were in America to Singapore was really really different like there was there were so many things I we'll maybe talk about that a little while but that the thing is is that you know because you're almost a year younger than obviously the older kids in school you know you physically mentally mature later and I think uh schools don't necessarily account for that and um I think in that year that you struggled you grew something like 10 in you went from being shorter than me to taller than me in one week really in one week right it yeah something like that yeah it was Bonas all right so look let's roll back the dice let's talk a little bit about growing up you know in Singapore and before moving to the US what were your memories of growing up here I remember we went to can I say the schools that I went to yeah so I remember first school was caterpillar's Cove I remember that it was like a little what's it called a preschool yeah remember that was fun and then I went to tanglin trust for 2 years for like what's it called reception and grade something like that grade one yeah that was fun that was a good experience I got some good funny stories and funny childhood stories have you yeah go um one of them I was swimming with a bunch of my friends and we were jumping into the pool so you could jump the furthest I don't think I don't think you know the story I don't know so I jumped in really far and I was like I must been four or five I was a little bit scared so I started crying and mom was there and I had my floats on so I wasn't in any real danger yeah but one of my friends moms not our not Mom jumped in the pool fully clothed to save me no even though I was fine who was she do you remember her name or you Shannon I think shann yeah or Sharon Sharon yeahall brond lady yeah we're still friends with her on Facebook yeah wow yeah Mom just was just standing there cuz I mean I was actually fine but I started crying cuz I was so far away from everybody she's a sweetheart yeah but that was a funny story I always make fun of mom for that jeez and then so tangling and then is that when we moved to the us we moved to the US in August of 2013 so that's over 10 years ago do you remember what we told you about moving or not really not really I just remember we had dinner with Auntie paully and Grandma at Grandma's house before we left that's the last thing I remember okay we had gone to a trip to the US like maybe a year before that or something like that well so what happened was you weren't I don't know if you know this so when my dad died uh when Grandpa Chris died after the funeral I was looking through all videotapes and I found this videotape of him in America um but my brother and I and Mom weren't with him he was on his own and and I never knew he made that trip and I asked my mom she said yeah he made that trip I I can remember and he's walking around my me for like 3 hours three and a half hours I fast forwarded through it and you never really see him on camera you just see a reflection of him you know in Windows and he's holding he's by himself by himself on the big camcorder and I have that in my room by the way that one I think you got a smaller one he had oh yeah he had many right so to his credit he would always film things and uh so apparently he went there and he wanted to relocate um man was not confident about it because he had run a business he he ran a heavy equipment uh plant business that effectively went bust and uh so she said look unless you get a steady job we're not moving and uh that sent me on the spiral I thought you know what it was always a dream of mine and an aspiration to move to the US so on the way back from the funeral with your mom I said honey if it's okay I think we need to move to the US and um maybe two years later we were there but what happened was I came back and I thought you know what uh dad dying has made me rethink everything and I took four week weeks off and we did a massive road trip to the US remember that do you remember yeah I remember it was crazy it was crazy I I was much older than Ty the my little sister but I was still we needed a stroller for me cuz I was so tired we doing so much yeah well we only brought one stroller but we got when we arrived in New York you were knackered and uh she went to Toys R Us and bought a $10 stroller so we had two strollers and uh remember sometimes I pretend to fall asleep cuz I didn't want to walk around excuse me you've pre pretend you asleep all the time and i' would have to carry you from and I started laughing immediately when you got when when you brought me back in the house well look if you get drunk in the future and you pretend you're asleep guess what I'm not carrying you anywhere you can stay stay where you are on the couch but um so we we flew to New York MH and then you know the whole concept was I wanted to find a university that your mom was comfortable with so I don't know if you know that so the whole trip was based around the universities that she was interested in and the areas so New York NYU went up to Yale right we didn't know that that's where your mom would eventually get into um and then we went down to Virginia Charlottesville in Virginia which is beautiful and then part of the trip was you know it was all fun but then we went to Orlando yeah I remember that we went to we were just talking about it earlier today Universal Studios it was amazing so I think we went to Miami first then I drove to Orlando well the other way around I can't remember and then we flew to San Francisco and it was a huge trip and believe it or not I didn't call the office once and I came back and I'd lost quarter of a million dollars of business unfortunately that was a bit of a shock but it was the best trip that I've ever had because it was 4 weeks and not calling work and you two were so young and cute and you you had an amazing time yeah we did what was your M you had a good time I remember bits and pieces and I think uh because we're very blessed we've been on a lot of trips a lot of the trips in the US are sort of Blended together cuz we traveled through a few different parts of it sure I remember I mean I remember more after looking at pictures you know what I mean like I remember when we took the picture I remember going to Harry Potter World which is a shame cuz I actually wasn't very into Harry Potter then I had read we hadn't watched the moves I was just a little boy yeah um but afterwards W that's so cool and I have all the Harry Potter stuff in my room up right now so cool so we stayed we also stayed in Walt Disney World Walt Disney World so we stayed on site in Disney and on site in Universal and the hotel we stayed in Walt Disney World there there's like a air train that goes through I remember that now yeah I remember we were waiting remember that that was beautiful what a what an experience to tell me what your memories were of Westport because for me you know it was the unequivocally the best time in my life it was very fun I think it was a very big change um in the sense that so I remember this we move there August 2013 good memory yeah uh then when we got there I remember when we first found out about the house we were T and I were really happy cuz there was we were sitting at a hotel I think it was Hotel zero something like that wow what a memory then we went by and we didn't know it was the house we just thought we were you know messing around and it was a lovely house with the red door and we walked down this like path and we saw the back and there was a playground in the house and we were like shocked cuz you know that's so foreign to us and that was a really fun time remember it was next to there were two beaches the one immediately like sort of across down that big hill that we lived on Old Mill Old Mill that was nice and then if you went further down to the right there was compo Beach which was the really big beach with everything where everyone was the shops and all water a place remember there was a bus stop if you can call it that it's it's literally it was by the side of someone's house and you had to walk down the hill y we got some funny stories there actually why tell me tell me that time where my pants stripped so let me remember that no so one time at school uh I think this is maybe two years in yeah I was very embarrassed because my pants had ripped I was like a very goody two shoes I was helping out the teachers pick up all the balls after recess yeah um so I did that and my pants ripped and then the teacher was like oh your pants your pants ripped yeah yeah yeah so so I had to walk down the whole hallway with a with holding a big pink dodgeball in front of my crotch trying to cover it up just after Avana was born oh really yeah so it was maybe at 1:00 p.m. yeah yeah and they were going to call you guys Butana had just come back to the house right cuz we she was at the hospital so I didn't want to bother you guys I said no no don't call him so they just they gave me tape they put white tape on like it was really really weird really yeah and then I had to stay through the rest of the class so then I took the bus home and I was you know I was sitting like this with my big jacket on yeah and then I remember we got to the bus stop and you were in the car across the road and all my friends were around I wanted you to drive me back up cuz I mean there's a little bit of a walk back to the house from the best stop yeah I was so embarrassed but I didn't want to shout out dad my pants ripped I didn't want to shout that out but you didn't know so then you left I had to walk up the whole way like that that wasit embarrassing yeah you went to I don't know you went to go to the supermarket or something oh really yeah oh yo that's a funny story yeah she learned some sign language man yeah but um I I just you w know this but one of the main reasons why I also wanted to go to the US was I was working such long hours that I didn't get a chance to see you guys especially Italia very much so for the duration of our time there unless I was traveling on for business yeah you drop us offo you pick us up you sp so much time together yeah we go to the park every afternoon um literally every afternoon and the thing about the US which is very different from the UK and Ireland is that even when it's cold it's sunny yeah blue skies and and it was stunning it was very pretty there like even looking back look the pictures it's so nice I mean we were sad that you and Mommy couldn't come with us for summer yeah but when we went back to Westport I fell in love with the place all over again it was the same yeah Tyler and I had a bit of a cry was like it was overwhelming really get to see her much cuz she we left there and she was B she doesn't remember it but she she's falling in love with the place so yeah it was uh but you know one of so there were a few gifts for me being in America so spending time with you I think that's the that's the biggest one um I got to exercise you were in really great shape I was looking at photos yeah I was in good shape and uh so I went I started going to the gym and I'll tell you something was interesting so the average age of the person in the gym when I went cuz I went in the morning after I dropped you off but they're all old people right my goodness they were in their 60s or 70s and there was this one fellow that was working out with a colostomy bag oh yeah and it was like was just blown away and it was um what was funny you'd go into the changing room they had a sa and steam room and everyone would be walking around naked and it wasn't a pleasant site but um but I I just was overwhelmed that uh so many people worked out and exercised because excuse me in most of the US most people are they're a bit unfit yeah they're a beaste but in Westport everyone is health conscious you know it's a very like and they were very you know careful about safety they were really most on the most part against guns oh big time with the first play day we ever ranged we were talking about Nerf guns and Benji's mom she got mad she was she got a bit protective or did she I remember that well Tracy was lovely she invited she invited us around when we barely hadn't known each other and uh when we invited her kids Beni and Rosie around she asked if you don't mind me asking do you guys have firearms which was you know for so forign is a question we said of course not um but yeah what a brilliant time yeah what have you got any questions or things you want to talk about Westport Westport I mean I have lots of memories in Westport actually now that I think about it lots of stuff in school lots of stuff in Italia um what else I remember because it was a primarily Jewish town so I went to have a sleepover once at Benji's house actually MH I celebrated shabat with them oh really yeah that's a few times I've done that and yeah it was fun I don't I don't really remember what we did exactly but I remember we would all drink some sort of I don't know what the drink was yeah on next to one another I think that was really different from Singapore and cuz we were in tanging everything was quite cisti not really religious yeah um that was interesting but I think the transition from Westport back to Singapore where I went to local school that was that was crazy yeah well you know before we get back to that you know one of the things I don't know if you know this um I think we touched on it once but my goal was I wanted wanted to become an actor MH and my goal was this was before V was born was I was going to start going to acting school and auditions in New York that was that was the goal right and I was basically going to position myself as the next badass Asian villain you know had to be villain to start with I think those characters are a bit more fun and uh I just started flying lessons and I wanted to take my motorcycle lessons and then all of a sudden your mom dropped the B shell that that baby had arrived and at the time I freaked out as did you yeah yeah you cried a little bit I cried because I didn't want another sibling but I love her now she's my best friend she's super cute she is super cute well I I said this to her the other day I said we didn't know how much we needed you until you arrived but you always knew now look at her the dogs like she I always say she's the CEO of this house she the boss she she runs you man she runs me yeah yeah I love it I love it most of the time um um but yeah I just I really and but what I want you to know about that is if you have a dream to pursue it right and especially when you're young to go after it because I mean I'm fortunate your mom was crazy enough to roll with me on the ride because the day that she got the so you know she again let's fast forward a little bit later after that one year after that Us holiday we went to Japan for an amazing twoe holiday we' never been before I also remember that that was brilliant and we were staying at uh Four Seasons in marinucci was an amazing hotel and we found out that your mom um had to had a full bright interview and I said honey you got to go back for the interview and she said oh no it's like two three days before the end of the holiday I said we'll just go back early which was not ideal because we had to change fles and we lost some money um but I just said look if if you show that you've come back early and you're all in and you're ready and you're prepare for that interview you're more likely to increase the chances of going yeah and lo and behold she got in which was huge and then basically the day that she found out she got accepted into y I've I've never seen your mom excited like that ever before or since she was like pumped up and the next day I said let's go let's go and do a reconnaissance trip and we did and I wrote to had written already but I wrote to seven estate agents and I saw like 56 properties starting in in um Wester which is deci on West until well how did you decide on W M found it on the line between New York and New Haven where Yale is there was a train station there yeah yeah and um so I said okay cool but my heart was set on Bedford and Westchester but the taxes were a lot higher like twice that of West oh goodness and uh Richard Gear one of my favorite actors he owns a hotel there so we the bford hotel so we stayed there and um so the first property we saw um was Sterling Drive where we bought and I I at the end of that day I said I want to buy the house subject to doing a check on making sure that there's no lead paint no termites no infrastructural issues no pipe damage so and so forth how long will this take and I said it to the agent Marcy and she said oh that will take three months I said what about two days and she said it's not possible I said I'll get it done as long as the owners are okay with it and I put an offer and I bought the the house for cash that was the first house you saw I didn't know that very aggressive mhm you know you cash buyers no messing around Bish BOS bang job done so that was and your mom was you know she said oh we should ran I said no we we need to get the kids into a good school and we were very lucky that the head teacher at greens Farm Bear yes I think so lovely man he was kind enough to allow us to interview none of the other schools would right because we didn't have a residence at the time and because one of his teachers had previously worked and lived in Singapore so he was he was fantastic and you know what happens in the public school system it depends on your postcode where you live and you know that school repeatedly got rated 10 out of 10 um and you know probably top 5 to 10% of schools in the whole of the US great school I think you guys had a really good time yeah there was lots fun it was really fun when tyia came in so like I think the first year or two yeah in Westport Ty was in the same school she was in some other like a preschool but when she came it was actually really fun cuz we wouldd hang out we'd wait with one another for you to pick us up yeah what a time so talk about coming back so you had that a difficult adjustment which I only found out about later really so I mean in Westport right I think I was like halfway through third grade and because of the way this school system works in Singapore I came back and I started basically fourth grade primary 4 and there was a big jump in like the academic so I I didn't really have to try very hard to do well I remember in the US but then in Singapore which was so tough and um I didn't know how like the examing systems worked cuz there were no really exams and and you hadn't been in local system before yeah and everyone was so shocked and I would get scolded a lot by the teachers I didn't know how to like I don't know shade the answer sheet I I had never done it before I was so confused everyone just expecting me to know and then because it was a Catholic a Christian Catholic School yeah it um I didn't know cuz we're not very religious I was I went to All the Chapel to all the stuff school and it was it was shocking to me because it was it was different like I was doing this with my left hand and I got in so much trouble for that really in so much trouble I think I I was held back for like a little while after school for that actually you should have told me yeah it was always I don't know why you kids never told me I would have gone this I would have sced with the teachers actually I think it was a parent who did that there were a lot of parent volunteers yeah mhm but I think that was quite difficult and also because I was in the US where a while had an accent yeah um yeah they would all call me angmo which it means white person y yeah it was weird cuz we were living in montea at the time you know that condo and that condo was primarily um international school kid so it was weird cuz you were not really you were in like a Lial State you weren't part of either group like you would be the white person amongst the local people and you'd be the Asian person amongst the white people yeah it's a bit weird so you were like you get ostracized for that listen I I had that growing up the whole time so you just learn to to be your own person right and then um unfortunately we found out I found out after your psle that you kind of got bullied a little bit yeah a little bit I mean un that happens a lot but what happened um I think it was because of my accent because I I don't know it was a bit weird were there any particular perpetrators yeah a few a few have you ever seen them since oh I saw one guy since and recently May the year two ago what would happen if he saw you now I think that guy blocked me cuz I was I mean to be fair I was I was a bit getting I was calling him out on it and he he felt a bit bad yeah I actually saw one of my classmates the other day on the train he was shocked to see me m it was weird how we both recognized each other you know it's been a long time yeah that guy was nice to me the guy I saw but there were maybe two or three I remember I was cuz I didn't take mother tongue cuz we had just moved back from the US so I was the only person who didn't take Chinese I mean there were there were more people but there was a special room for it so I was in this room full of people who had all these really bad learning disabilities and stuff and they were just it was it was really weird in there you were just top cost were you yeah yeah uh there was also there was lot there are lots of fights in there actually it's quite surprising how there are so many fights and there are so many teachers around really like on the field remember one time in class these two boys started fighting like it was vicious it was really bad like their shirts were RI bleeding he took like five minutes to get involved it was ridiculous so I think one of the things that um so when when you finished psle I think Mom was you you know it was a traumatic experience for all of us just getting cuz it so difficult right but what was your of all that looking back I mean it wasn't too bad I had some good teachers on my English grade so we had prelims which were like the the school basic because PSL is a national exam then you have the practice exams which are created by the school for the prelims I actually got straight a um my best subject was science which was funny because and my worst subject for the prelims was English which is funny CU normally around yeah yeah but then for psle itself I think my English was the best my composition so we had to write a lot remember one one time that year I got 37 out of 40 and I was going to this sort of acting class thing and that's I went with DAR my best friend now he was also in my primary school with me um that's sort of when we decided to start looking at SAA and I addition to SOA for two different art forms CU that you couldn't do film uh in the first four years you can do what dance music theater you can write uh you can do Visual Arts so I auditioned for theater and visual arts I mean not visual literary so writing yeah um all my friends Dar and all they were all doing acting and I think they were they're a lot more outgoing than I am and the teachers they asked me oh what would you prefer to do would you prefer to write or would you prefer to go in for acting or theater I prefer to go into for writing cuz I love writing I've always L writing I've always been making up stories since I was young even like in the US even when I was always always um yeah so that was fun so I did that and I got I didn't actually know i' get Sala until after P my psle results cuz I was on the waiting list didn't we find out the day the day of so we were quite happy cuz I was just so happy and relieved mom was so happy well yeah what my score wasn't too great for psle she she wanted you to get a higher grade I mean she got very high grade but also I don't know I mean in theory I think I got an A star at two B's which in theory is not that bad yeah I think well if we unwind and unpack this a little bit one of the key things was I I and I I recognize this because I'm an introvert by Nature as are you um you were shy very shy and the thing is you had been in a few different schools at this point and you were struggling to adjust a little bit right make friends and that's why we thought of acting right and I think Mom had become friends with darian's Mom yeah we became friends with all of them like I'm actually I'm close friends with maybe three of them now no right which is amazing but that led to that journey and that really I think that helped give you a lot of confidence and you had a lot of acting gigs I mean quite a few given that you weren't pursuing it aggressively and I wasn't like yeah I was so what were you in just got I was in a few TV shows I think okay the first thing I did was this short film that I I ended up being on the straights times for just like a picture of me with DAR you and Daran yeah so I was playing the young version of this lawyer and he was I only I only just watched the film recently cuz it was actually inappropriate it was about a lawyer who had to prosecute his uh lover and it was inappropriate in the sense cuz Singapore it's just homosexual love Yeah and what's funny is that the person I was playing the younger version of in that played your older brother no played sorry played my father in the next one oh yes and that person that person's father in the short film the person's lover in the short film played the older version of me so it's weird cuz it's like they're they're both playing the older version of me in two different things yeah it's all linked it's really weird and so you in that what was that called we will burn it was actually quite good can we watch yeah I found I only found it on YouTube it's on Vimeo have to search for it okay let's have a look let's watch that the next thing I was on was called paddles up that was a really great experience that was that was brilliant like that was really good cuz most local shows do you know what I mean they're all very you were the league you were the younger version of The League character the leag character and I actually met quite a few nice people there looking back I still really I enjoyed watching that show like I'd watched it even if I wasn't in it yeah it was such a well a great production especially for a Singaporean show was by RIS G yeah it was actually filmed really really close by a lot of it yeah uh that was it was good but they they touched upon drugs steroids which is not you normally quite a few runchy scenes right so that for for Singapore quite groundbreaking stuff yeah that was a really good experience um actually what El one of the writers of that ended up being my risting teacher the next year oh I did none of that which led to me getting another role did I tell you about this I think I must told you about this a while ago no REM me um so this lady was friends with one of the writers something I don't really remember but she ended up being my writing teacher one of my two writing teachers um in my second year at SAA yeah and she's a very famous author in Singapore so she wrote this very popular children's book series called the Diaries of Amos E Lee something like that okay and she was writing this kid show that Dar have been on and she was like oh do you want do you want to be in the show so she actually wrote a character for me because I was doing a lot ofu and mu at the time so she had wrote in a fight scene cuz they were asking oh what sports can you do I obviously hadn't done many sports before so they were thinking basketball and but she had asked me cuz she was my teacher yeah so she wrote in actually a fight scene for me where this guy and I used to do martial arts together and there was actually a fight scene in the show and they didn't have a start team yeah cuz they cut it out because it was a bit too violent but we spent a while choreographing I was I choreographed it what shame and it was actually it was fun cuz the guy there with me I know him now he was he was older than me bigger than me but there was this whole fight scene and we have to do it again and again and again and of course he's never had any martial arts I've never fight you 13 13 but you hadn't made any YouTube videos at this point I had made YouTube videos at that point but so you had done some oh sorry I had done fight SC so let's backtrack a little bit the year before that after doing peddles up that show um we filmed agent in 26 which is I think I was inspired heavily by Mission possible remember we watched that in the cinema yeah so we were in griefs yeah I just took a camera and I was like okay I'm just going to film something by myself so we filmed something that first Airbnb and then I got the whole family involved with Uncle Steven cousin Alexandra Talia got you involved this was really fun thing then I got all my friends involved and I actually filmed a lot more that I haven't aired yet oh really yeah so much more there's I all footage so much footage cuz I remember I had them over all the time yeah yeah that was a fun experience that was brilliant and then you were you in a TV show in the back of a taxi oh yeah I forgot about that yeah it was like um you in a you another girl your age or there abouts were interviewed for a game show that was fun it yeah that was fun it was in the back of a car you know the thing is it became so normalized that you were on TV that when the your sisters watch it they didn't even get excited yeah and I just and hi side like it's not a big deal when you think T was on TV as well and it was like but listen you were on the cover of the straight times of one of the sections it's amazing um and then what else did you do I didn't this other oh this is a good story uh it's a short it's a short series called sleep with me oh we got to tell this story classic maybe I just turned 14 right just turned 14 just turned 14 like like during Co days or thereabouts right just after that telling the co so what happened was I got this role it was the same director as that show whoopy world where there's a fight since i' worked with him before um so he actually he reached out to me and wanted me to play because I had Carly hair had the guy so was about this couple um who had a tumultuous relationship so I played their son and they were Janice Co yeah was the lead female lead yeah and Shane mauki he played my dad really nice guy uh I know him now we we're still in touch um what happened to the show so I played their son and their son's a bit challenged like he had this he meant to be Autistic or something something like that they didn't say it explicitly but they were expect like I had to carry around a hamster I was like 14 taller than both my parents and I was sleeping in the same bed as them with the big hamster cage yeah so it's a bit ridiculous so remember the I had a baby mustache at that time I hadn't shaved yet I had baby skin you know and the director was like oh yeah that mustache has to go you look like a creep so um the lady there she shaved it there was no cream no nothing just shaved it with like a tiny razor blade that big that was shocking so I was like wo okay and then that was one day I came back and then you guys were shocked because oh no I wanted teach other to shave I was I was vexed because that's Meant To Be A Part the sun experience yeah and that lady just did it dry right which was surprising yeah and then yeah I don't know why but that upset me tremendously cuz they didn't even ask us you know what I mean and then another day in the show so I'm playing this boy and I have this crush on my um the guy my father's guitar student would come to the house cuz my gu my father would teach guitar this girl was 24 in real life something in real life yeah and I was 14 so I was supposed to have a crush in her now in the script there was supposed to be this dream sequence where she kisses me on the cheek yeah and I'm like okay okay okay so I was ready for that so we did the rehearsal and there were like 50 people in this like really cramped tiny room when we're doing the dream sequence we rehears it once and she kisses me on the cheek okay fine that's fine right um then we go on to do the takes you're 14 I'm 14 she's 24 um and then what happened was when we when she when the guy said action director said action we did the scene that she kissed me on the lips out of nowhere that wasn't part of the script that wasn't part of the you know she was part of the she must have been told to do that yeah cuz that was okay I was shocked and that was my first kiss ever and there were like 50 people in the room with me and after and mommy and I weren't even there yeah so I was like this and I forgot my line so then you have to do it again and then again and again and again I think we did the take at least 20 times now how many of those times did you forget your lines on purpose four four maybe don't get me started man yeah I was quite shocked um but yeah and I was quite upset I acted a bit upset when I came back well this is my memory I invited us all out express Grandma joined us and uh I looked at you and I said what's wrong son and you in a foul mood I said what's wrong I said oh was the kissing scene today and and you know and your mom's looking at me like leave it drop it I said what you had your first kiss today on stage was it I I read this it was m on the cheek and I go oh did you get lips and then you went bright red and then you but then and I actually had my first girlfriend at the time but we had you had a girlfriend at the time and then I started cracking up and then fast forward um so I said I just said to you don't worry about find me and then when we saw the outtake of it it didn't even look like a real kiss that was what they they took the one shot where I didn't yeah you couldn't see no but it was but your acting was really good and I said to you listen son it could be a lot worse and you go how could it be worse and I said look she's attractive you know don't tell your sister this CU this is terrible in terms of double standards but your mates will say wow you you kissed yeah I I owned it afterwards yeah I owned it afterwards you know that's a good story for the future as well I realized a lot of these but listen we got on camera we have to play it during this you've never played oh look at his face he's never you ever put it up on Instagram or anything no I was a bit I was trying to hide it why it's out there now bro are you going to be upset no I mean honestly now because it was so long ago I mean it was it's quite funny I think your acting was very good um I just want to talk about this so a lot of people that know me know your journey because whenever they talk to me I talk about you and your sisters and your mom and they see you you know 184 cm tall strapping young lad you know amateur box a tremendous physique but what they don't know is that you struggled with sports yeah I'm like if you see me run and stuff but but put a video of me running in a second I don't know if the camera could take it you might break it but what I just I'm just curious you know cuz I I grew up I fell in love with sports at a very young age and my whole life was Sports and I pursued it but for you it was different right did you feel that you were been pushed into things from by me or CU you did I think I was just not confident was I remember we did footb we did some football soccer um both in America and Singapore but I wasn't really into it that much yeah um but else T was always very athletic she had six packs from like just what something like four or five yeah like by the way she was stronger than me until I was like 13 years old she could beat me in nor your that's your mother thinks that was the problem she thinks that and also she's left-handed and she could beat you with a right hand so your mom thinks that that didn't help sort of turn me off I I don't really know I mean maybe but also I just wasn't really interested in it I was more interested in just toys action figures playing yeah yeah did you did you feel though because you did what what marot did you you Dido first but we didn't do that very seriously but I do have some good memories of doing no you did that for quite a few years but not like we there would be pauses that' be off but you I've got some video clips you you were you actually very good naturally MH right and I I just realized that in your own mind and this is you know I want to touch upon this because I try and share this with old parents uh or just youngsters that are growing up if you think you're bad at something guess you probably be bad you're right you're absolutely I've realized I've actually naturally just if I'm interested in something I'm naturally just going to be better at it if I believe I can do it like natur I'll pick things up faster yeah as compar but you know like technically even though tyia plays basketball which is a very very technical game your right hand hand to eye coordination is a lot better naturally right and um so let's so then so you did M Tha yeah that was or remember that so we BJJ for a while first and then I did the MU Tha class I went to the kids class and cuz you I done some stuff with you beforehand and I did Tao before the crew said okay no I was maybe 12 I hadn't hit my girl spr yet said okay no you join the adult class yeah remember then just after I was doing the adult class in BJJ for a while and you were doing not just that what I really admired you were doing BJJ MTI classes back to back back to back yeah right and but let's let's let me tell you where I think everything started to change so the day we got your psle exam mom was upset I dropped off at work and I said let's go and get McDonald's McDonald's Maks everything better yeah right and you were you were upset you know I was 11 at this time nearly 12 yeah so you had bit of a cry gave you my sunglasses you know and cuz you at the time you were you know everything didn't look good it looked a little bit Bleak and I just listen it's going to be fine and uh I went back and I said to your mom you know I think I should take Caden away for a weekend a few days just a father and son lad's kind of trip and she goes yeah that's a great idea and um I said to her okay give me a couple of hours I'll work something out I said honey I'll B tickets and she goes you where you going barley going to try do some surfing or you know snorkling and I said um somewhere a little bit further where you going we're going to Vegas baby we're going for the Conor McGregor kab fight that was a great experience that was a crazy experience I remember that that was like and then next day we flew off yeah so so what happened was we flew to La we had like a 6-hour layer or something and we went to Santa Monica here straight into a cab now this is where I'm telling you this is where everything happened we went to Santa Monica pier and I showed you the zultan um oh from Big from big and then I wish I'd be big you wish you'd be big and look at you I'm telling you work it clearly doesn't work for me cuz I've wished that and I broke the Box wishing I was a little bit taller and then we spent a few hours there had an amazing time flew to Vegas yeah and we did everything there but this is this what made me laugh we had to walk through a casino and there were uh naked women dancing yeah and I said I'm going to cover your eyes son avert your eyes but if you want to have a look and that's what you did walking through it was hilarious um we went to go and watch I think at least one Ser to Sol I remember that we we didn't watch car that was when we watched when we were last in Vegas it was some ocean you've been to Vegas three times now yeah which is crazy so tell the guys what happened because before the fight I I I told you what I thought was going to happen so because it was so there was so crowded there there were loads of people supporting Connor and a lot loads of people supporting kab the Irish versus the Russian yeah and they were wearing all the khabib hats so you had sort of foresaw that there would be some backlash afterwards I thought there would be a breakout potentially in the stands and there' be violence so of course we all know what happened there um kabib jumped out and I remember this he jumped out and we see this and part of us wants to stay and watch but then you said no let's go so maybe 2 seconds after he jumps out we we start making our exit I had but what you didn't you not remember this you I planned our exit you planned out I planned our exit how we would get out and quickly because you were CU you were tiny yeah we didn't want to get caught in any of that and you know when when men are aggressive and they been drinking alcohol it was and it did go off did Go videos afterwards yeah and we got out we were out there the first people out of the stadium um but was an amazing evening and I think that was really what sparked my love my interest for Marshal LS I think he really sparked it off and it was the next year I started doing some crazy kicks and all big time what were the uh other fights you remember was it Pettis Pettis versus um Tony Frozen that great fight that was a fantastic fight can't remember this feel like Wonder Boy was on at one point was he I've seen so I mean so that was that was absolutely huge we we went horse riding when we were there yeah that was that was fun you know um you did quite a few stop motions yeah that's when I started getting into stop motion really yeah and that was that was i' always wanted to go into stop motion cuz I always watched on YouTube but that was that year and the year after is when I really got into it that was it was it and then I remember and then on the way back we got off at San Francisco and again we had a layover because we got cheap flights you know $1,000 tickets which was brilliant and then I said let's let's go to uh San Francisco Pier and let's go and eat crab and remember that yeah and we had a great time and then we we got to train there and then we got a taxi back what an adventure yeah it was really you know first and last boys trip when you're shorter than me just me and you um but hopefully there'll be many more to come so let's then talk about I'm just curious about your journey with boxing and what's your memory because so you you were you were M you had some competitions in BJJ you enjoyed it but you never you never seemingly took to it fully I did I guess I didn't really enjoy BJJ that much and when I started doing mu Thai I remember you said oh you like that much more don't you cuz you know you like the action I like hitting stuff yeah and also I just don't like being on the ground I mean I know it's like if you get into a fight that might happen but if I can avoid it I much prefer stand up yeah even just watching it um So Co had happened so I couldn't go to the gym anymore and you had found prit and prit was doing PR's my boxing coach um he was doing oneto ones at the house right so we arranged that for that to happen and yeah he came over that was fun yeah and I um I mean the one thing is I've I've always believed in you and always said to you listen I think you can be the best at the end of the day though the thing is to be the best version of yourself and and uh really try and I think you know you don't mind me sharing when you were how old were you when you started with prit 13 so 14 14 and a half mom had said to me look confidentially kad's told me that he may not want to continue boxing he's not sure um and I said yeah but how can I deal with this if it's confidential right like you you told your mom you didn't tell me so I invited you out for dinner and then Talia was away and you said I'll invite Mommy and aana uh so we went out and uh we went to what was it Place Taste of paradise or something and uh I love that restaurant by the way and then I said look mom's told me this why are you thinking of stopping and do you remember the three reasons you said to me number one I remember very clearly number one you said um I I don't know if I'm good enough and I said I get that I know that but you'll never know what you're capable of unless you fully commit to it you're all in right um and then you said look training is very hard sparring is hard and I said I'm not going to let you give up on anything just because it's hard and so by the way you don't need to compete right you need to do a bit of sparring just to learn to defend yourself right so that's fine I think the thing with sparring at that point of time is because I was in this like weird stage where I was I had grown so much so I had to spar with these bigger guys but my strength hadn't caught up with me and you didn't have control of your body because you I think you had grown 14 inches in about two years something like that a year and a half so you were gangly right you couldn't control your everybody was so much bigger like even though we about the same height they were all so much older than me so you know there's a big difference there so you so you weren't feeling it and the last thing that really did shock me you said I I don't like hurting people yeah I remember there's one time I was sparring with this guy I don't know why I did something to him and I felt really bad afterwards yeah and I said listen that's lovely I said look that's good you're a good person but it's it's kind of like a tennis match you know sometimes you just got to serve an Ace and knock someone out you know um but you know then something just took hold and just gradually progressively you built more confidence I think you saw your physique start to change yeah I start I got I was focusing a lot on my getting abs cuz I really want abs that was your goal and maybe like in a month I got a six-pack and I just couldn't stop taking pictures of myself I remember in my old bathroom you still can't I still can't all the time well listen if I had your physique I'd be taking pictures as well um and then that was it and I just knew you on your way and it was up to you and it's up to you now but how do you feel about your boxing Journey you know how's it defined you and I think the way I've gone about it or sort of everything the last couple years maybe the last two three years in particular sort of changed the way I view things I don't think I was working the smartest in the sense that I think I could have been doing things a lot better you mean studying studying even even with school and stuff but now I think my approach things is a lot better in the sense that you have to work hard but you also have to work smart yeah so I found that that I like working with the schedule you know wake up specific time well you found out you have ADHD and boxing I think probably helped you I also think boxing like changed my physique lot cuz I've not done any weights or anything yeah and cuz I was boxing so much um you know when I was having my grocer my arms they're longer than by the way most people can't believe that you've never done weights because of your physique by the way if you did do weights or when you do do weights when you're older you'll be phenomenally strong you know I can see that and I got quite I think I got a lot stronger cuz I I started believing that I could do it like I was struggling with 40 push-ups and to to do it right now I can I think the most pushup I've done now are something like 80 82 and you'll get to 100 but like I always tell you you have to believe it you have to see you have to think it you know even though that being said on my uh 47th birthday I only hit 80 MH which is you know up until a few years ago you know I've got this injury yeah doing 100 was I wouldn't say it was easy for me but I could do 100 I could do 100 with a hangover at 3:00 in the morning MH you know um but yeah so I so and then what you realized was that you were capable yeah and I started doing some sparing so I think my first fight um we didn't actually have a very long Camp there I think I had a 3 we camp cuz we were on holiday and by the way everyone is at least a year older than you yeah and and and a year they were more they had more fights than I had yeah more experience but it physically and a year is a big difference at your age so actually I didn't know the like how amateur boxing would work so I should have probably done a bit more research or sort of seen how the game how it worked in Singapore so in the amateur scene so the first round I remember that I got two head counts yeah um I was being I think my demeanor could have been could have been more polite to get the ref to be a bit more you know kind to me yeah uh I couldn't get the guy out in the first round that was fine then so in box since three head counts in one round three consecutive head counts then it's a TKO yeah then after that the next round I think I got a point deducted cuz I would throw a punch and I would basically lose my bance after throwing a big right hand I throw like a back hand like that yeah and I done that in Spar I didn't know that was like legal yeah or anything and the problem is you You' done MMA and this that and the other so you had to reset your mind yeah so I got I think I got a point minus there and you told me this before but I didn't know what and I I just forgot about it and you didn't I didn't understand what you're was saying in the stands is that after I got I got a head count I I mean in reality in amate boxing if you get a head count doesn't mean that you're necessarily hurt no they they just take precaution yeah and especially cuz we're young um so I didn't put my hands up I just didn't look like I was very I was fine though and it was a in my opinion a premature stoppage yeah it was yeah that was a bit disappointing but for the next Camp I was a bit well hold on let me just interrupt you there because so that was against Addie yeah who's even taller than you are great young man and what I love about it was after you were you were devastated because you really wanted to win you wanted to become the Singaporean champion and you you got third place and um you we went to the stadium to get changed you were really upset and as you went back in you saw his whole family outside and because you wear headgear they probably didn't recognize you straight away but you introduced yourself and you did this on your of your own behest I didn't say anything to you you introduced yourself and you said look just want to to congratulate your you guys had he had a tremendous fight and you know I'll be supporting him in the final and um and then but then you went in after that and you saw Addy sat down you went and shook his hand you'd already shaken his hand and you said but I want that rematch and I remember thinking wow I was blown away I had a bit of a I had a bit of a cry myself thinking wow that was that was and that I think that defined you that those couple of moments second bout second bout against the southp so that was a pretty good camp I think that was a more full Camp I was hoping I'd get the rematch with AI but uh I was given someone else and that was fine working a lot on the south with the South Pole I think my Approach during that fight my strategy was very different in the sense that so in the fight with AI I was really aggressive I was just on on on going going going but then he's got a great gas tank by the way we've learned that he he he's firing to he's just he can take punishment and he keep go in he's got gas tank credit to him and so the southp was against it was a lot more technical so I remember I was walking to the ring and then the same R from the first fight I was like oh [ __ ] I was I you can see it on my face in the video yeah okay so I I sort of backed off a little bit I was a lot so you know that I was a lot more calm then relaxed strategic and then I sort of put it on a lot more in the third round yeah understood you delivered a couple of lovely left left hooks to the body a lovely left cross to the face MH yeah great and then you got the TKO yeah that was a really good one and all your friends were there that was amazing and the funny thing about that was I remember for the weigh-ins you had the weigh-ins you had the medical and the whole time for the medical you're waiting for about an hour and you sat next to your opponent yeah we all we all just chatting you know so the thing is you didn't know him before make a small talk oh that's that's your girlfriend over there nice how long you guys been together yeah it was that's the thing people don't realize it's unusual right you're sating to the guy you're about to you know trade trade blows with um and then after that after that we had um what's it called we had like an UNF unsanctioned bout at the gym how do you feel about that because it was home gym but you it was a it was a fun experience because it's not like it was almost like an underground Fight Club it seemed cuz at that time I mean now qc's events are a bit more um bit more gentlemanly there you know their chairs it's a lot more organized now but before it was a bunch of people standing up it was like a concert almost yeah and you have to squeeze past these people so so we were so I I'll play clip here so you're downstairs doing your apps outside on boat key right outside basically a KTV lounge and we're warming up outside I've got a damaged shoulder so I can't do anything my left hand so you're just using one pads but you were pumped mate you were you were ready for you were ready for business and you were in tremendous shape cuz you didn't have to cut weight for that fight yeah which I think was a big difference CU you're growing right and uh you're still and I was struggling with the weight card L too like to make 67 kgam yeah tough so tough for for you and you were growing right and I remember we as we walked up the stairs Isaac was filming us and you touched the top of the yeah that was I never done that before I just thought okay this I love it well you know what was crazy when we walked in we thought there might be another fight or two we had it was perfect the guy was already there in the ring yeah and we got you suited go and tell us what your memory was of that we walked through I remember this my friends were there I was bit nervous cuz there were so many people there yeah and uh was but it was okay in the end this guy I thought he was a bit more experienced than he was actually yeah cuz he was posting a lot of stuff saying yeah that he would knock me out and stuff and that's fine I just talk to him afterward It's actually an okay guy he's a nice guy yeah nice guy I think though that's that can be a little bit intimidating when you're you're online on Instagram and you're like someone you don't know saying going to knock you out H yeah and he had come with like he had this so one of my friends goes to school with that guy or one of my friend's brother goes to school that guy and he has this like reputation for being this you know tough gangster beting people up and they were four or five yeah one of them was 65 I remember the they were all big yeah they're all big they all getting both of us well I'm not very difficult to be bigger biger than both me and the my opponent oh yeah yeah they're all they're all 61 62 plus right and uh but when you went through you know you add Smith and W yeah that was the I really like that I got the CH she was my outfit I felt like oh this is and we we just I just got you your your guard your groin Guard from Ireland you had your winning head gear winning gloves on man you you looked you were in tremendous shape that night and then I mean strategically I probably could have done been a bit better but I was I think one of the few things I've learned is I I was sort of just pushing him around a bit and I wasn't trying to get out of there I wouldn't move like my feet were stuck in the mud and I think that's something I changed yeah over the course of the year just this year just moving my feet that was good I got first round TKO and thing is I didn't know cuz there were so many people in there you didn't there's this one bit where I stopped cuz I thought there were two bits you stopped yeah cuz I thought you you well there was one bit you there was one there two parts where you were on the verge you were thrown a punch that would have it would have destroyed him real powerful punch and then you pull back cuz I thought Oh I thought coach was telling me to stop yeah cuz it was so loud in there it's not a regular Bell it's a horn yeah um but again what I Lov was you you afterward gracious raised his hand and we went and we sat outside on the stairs with him his friend you know and he he hurt his shoulder quite badly in that fight um but anyway look I'm so proud of you know your journey and like I said to I mean Sansa used to write to you when you got your first pair of boxing gloves when you were prob prob we in Westport and I've got video yeah yeah and and then he said you read Go Daddy Santa says I can be a world champion I said yes son you can be go wow Santa thinks it right um but so what what so what do you think that do you want to continue boxing you're not sure I'm not too sure so I think at the moment well actually I'd like to talk about my last fight first sorry my last fight I lost that fight split decision so actually I was very nervous going to that fight uh no excuses I was the I lost Fair Square but this this was this was a tough time because my M had just died yeah so I think whated was it was mom your grandma died maybe less than two weeks beforehand but before it was less than that and we'd gone to Ireland yeah so we I didn't I came we came back and we had a whole graule cuz you had gotten a separate flight we mom T van and I were stuck in Germany that was all very stressful and then we came back late we lost our stuff it was a whole whole thing I was a bit sick when we came back and that was maybe three weeks before the fight but okay let's keep training keep training keep training and then unfortunately so there were a buildup of things so coach my coach Was preparing for his fight so I think that there wasn't a lot of as much guidance as I would have liked there wasn't as much sparring I think only had two days where I full saring properly and they weren't even with opponents anything like my opponent that night they were both shorter than me well the thing is when you you know all those years you were on a Singapore national team there were a couple of guys that were your hyp but primarily not really yeah so anyway then when you went away cuz you went that Dad would normally um watch over my weight cut so I don't know if you remember this I was really underweight like I was on weight like two weeks before the fight and I was struggling to you basically starving yourself yeah and if see videos my neck and I mean I was really really ripped lean but I was I was looking terribly you're actually below the weight you meant to be I I think I was 65 kg on the day of the fight K and I struggled to make 67 and You Were Meant To Be You Were Meant To Be you were walking around probably at 70 at the time were you 69 70 6970 normally yeah but because I was so low and just a build up things and also I didn't we had timed everything wrong so I didn't get a full warm-up so it's just a build up to things and of course would those have changed the outcome of the fight maybe maybe we never know yeah it was a good fight it was a close fight yeah I was also very intimidated cuz this guy was bigger than me and also cuz he came from the gym I don't know why I was this is the only time where I was like intimidated before going into a fight well the the gym there it's uh loud it's a great gym coaches you know very Dynamic you know uh assertive guy great guy by the way right we're talking about Fox clubs by the way and um yeah so you you lost a split decision uh I think I was a bit shocked I think I was also a bit dehydr hydrated I got cracked with a right hand and after that I was you could early on yeah and that's unlike me cuz you normally when I get cracked I'm not you know what I mean yeah yeah but after that I think I was really really upset and devastated so it took me a while to put that weight back on and then I went back into Camp hard uh with PBC and I started making some big improvements with everything um with a lot of my work Landing to the body I think I started watching more film study I got a lot fitter like my conditioning like my stamina got a lot better and I was dropping some guys yeah were dropping guys and sparring and some serious sparring man you were starting to crack your strength was coming on yeah and I think definitely the weight was a b is a big factor yeah I think the weight cut was not managed properly also because I'm sort of just coming into my sides now you know you know the one thing cuz there's so many things I've tried to teach you about boxing and and maybe because I'm from the street and doing all the martial arts that I've done but it was like always said get out a pocket like even when you're having a disagreement in the ring and the referees there back I mean like you know I learned a long time get back get in get out get in I remember that time we would do actually a lot of wrestling and work and clinch work and I built up my strength a lot so in the sparring for my last camp for this year's National Championship um I was pushing people around and it was I was just sort of showing my strength I was I managed to push everybody um well that's what I said to you I said if you if you use this technique all these techniques and if you're able to you know hang in there with me you you cuz you will be able to push nearly anyone around your weight M right which was good and I think this year so I was in Camp this is the longest Camp I've been in I think I was in Camp basically from November to January uh but I mean I was a holiday two or three times I was training even the holiday yeah yeah and it was a really good camp but unfortunately my opponent at 67 kgs in the youth categories under 19 category had pulled out and we don't know why and that was quite disappointing so we were like okay let's what about the youth category and the way class above which is more my natural weight uh there was no opponent there and for the normally in the previous years um Singapore boxon would let people my age go into the men's development um category which is basically under five fights but if you're over the age of 18 or 19 sorry 19 something like that but they wouldn't let me do that this year which is quite a shock so I was I WR to that yeah you weren't quite disappointed you were devastated I was really really very upset CU it was my best Camp yet I was ready why you trained you to become Singapore champion and I was ready I was doing that was my best Camp I was doing the best I think oh man you were you were devastating sparring I I I think I had two rounds of two there were only two rounds of sparring where I feel like okay they were close but I feel like the rest were they were pretty good they were good yeah yeah so I was very proud of you man you know and then and then basically supped I had to go back to doing IB yeah so it's just no fights just been doing IB Le two weeks ago so how do you feel man it was a long journey I'm very grateful for you and Mom and all my teachers I had lots of teachers and tutors and friends even who just were very nice and supporting um you know I had lots of consultations with my teachers privately oneon-one I had lots of tuition and they really went out of their way to help me which I thought was lovely I'm so grateful K I'm telling you now I couldn't be more proud of you you know in particular with your studying because I've I I've really not seen anything like it you put everything into whatever happens what whatever the outcome is you couldn't have studied any harder right you sacrificed um if you want to call it that your social life you you weren't going out um you still you still kept training great shape but you just weren't going boxing as as much right because you couldn't damage your hands you're still in tremendous shape uh are you proud of yourself and and what you've done yeah I guess but I feel like in hindsight I think I could have done a few things a little bit better a little bit intelligently I don't know I feel like right now my knowledge about everything is a bit better I think cuz I was cramming a lot at the end and I think I could have I don't know I feel like my understanding now as compared to two weeks ago even though I've not been studying for the last two weeks is better I just feel like I needed to sort of sit back I should have I should have done the cramming a little bit earlier the last minute cring a little bit earlier so I was so I could just think about things more clearly and I think also the troubl uh the troubling thing with the exams this year is that I had multiple papers in one day in like different subjects crazy you had seven minutes in between exams sometimes yeah and a few times the it was not really there were a few this Carles that happened I mean things that couldn't be changed for example my laptop so I have to type cuz for exams my laptop wasn't working yeah I I couldn't so I lost my reading time uh which isn't very good I think one day I remember I had langlet paper 2 and anthro paper 1 back to back and I think I had 45 minutes in between which was that was the toughest day because langlet paper to you have to basically memorize or understand four different texts four different books or plays and so I memorized all four of them and I you have to write an essay based on a random question that paper went decently I could have gone better but then the next paper anthro you have to read this sort of like an extract from a passage and you also have to memorize like four or five different anthropology texts and because they're so back toback and they're so different it's like a really quick change and also because you're so tired from you know wrecked from doing the first paper yeah that was the toughest day yeah mate whatever happens now and I think look the reality is after national service you get to specialize right so what do you want to do like between now and national service you hopefully you get time to do an internship yeah I would love to do an internship before national service of course I don't actually know yet when I'm in listing yeah I don't know what part I'm still pzd because I have ADHD they still they don't know what I'm doing what does that mean it basically means that I it's not confirmed they need to they need to basically follow up with me assess if you're fit for certain type of service MH hopefully they give me something good cuz I think I'm fine I'm not well you bouncing off the wall your preference is to do something that is it very combat I want to do something awesome like this is what I said to the NS doctor I said look as long as it look cool an action movie I want to do it and I you know I want to all that stuff I'd love to do I'd love to shoot guns throw grenades jump out of a plane well the thing is there are so many things I think that you can do and you should do in your life like I think you should become a qualified pilot you know even if it's not commercial tell the guys what happened so just after covid we had got to the US just after as was thir time to Las Vegas so Dad and I I think this was a birthday your birthday so it was three years two years ago three years ago two years ago 3 years ago three years ago is it yeah three years ago wow and then so Dad and I went to this what's called what what was it called this flight experience right so Top Gun it's like Top Gun so it's actually a bunch of old crop duster planes and we had thought that all the pilot instructors were exmilitary but they were I thought they were Naval aviators Top Gun were but what were they actually sorry they were EXC crop yeah so that was cool so what happened was we go in the front of the plane and it was a really tight cramp plane my legs were cramping up really badly at the time yeah and it was December so it was up there was minus it was minus freezing up there yeah and then the instructor would be in the back seat so tell them what happened in the prep the the meeting prep how long did the meeting prep last for on safety two minutes two minutes to two minutes on safety and he's he's just brushing through things okay so you know if if we crashes you know there's no obor see he basically just pointed at the thing at the glass at the glass and said kick it off and but he didn't explain it properly so we're like whoa whoa whoa slow down man well what happens what do we do yeah so so and then the parachute instruction was how long that was like it was 10 seconds like okay just pull this yeah and I said look now slow down let's rewind so we kick the glass off right goes yeah I'll tell you and then we then what and then he goes then you pull the parachute and then that was pretty much it right that was it right and if something bad happened what would also I couldn't I wouldn't be able to kick the glass off my legs camping up was so tight in there yeah so we had a bet beforehand so I I was thinking geez this is uh well so I said to him okay which one of us going to pass out pass out first or vomit first or either mhm or both and so we go up there and I'm saying good luck son I love you yeah and um we got to there were 10 Maneuvers and I got to the seventh one and I thought this is rough mate so I say on the intercom Kade I'm not going to do the last two don't worry about it son I don't know I didn't hear you you never heard you never heard I did so I actually vomited but it was like dry dry heaving that's what they said it was Zero cuz of the G's what's it called yeah the gForce yeah you were at about 5G yeah I was you did that maneuver where the plane stops so what they would do is that the the instructor would do the trick first so I don't know it' be like a loop to Loop or spin the plane around and then he sort of explained to you from the back what to do with the joystick then he switched the control over to me cuz you you get to fly yeah so that was cool but then at the same time it's a bit scary cuz it's not just my life it's the other guy's life I was thinking okay wait wait I just do this CU it's not like they showed us beforehand it's not like he's showing us visually he's just telling us okay just move it to the right you know but they're great instructors cuz they they have a sense of what you can do what you can't do I have to say I did all the stuff I did all the it was well did the one where so the plane is like this and then it goes backwards like that he basically turns it off where it's not flying anymore and it's dropping backward if that's the front sorry that's the top of the plane it's falling backwards like that so we did this by like 8:00 in the morning cuz I said I want these guys to be fresh I don't want to be doing it you know at the end of the day like five rides and look having done a parachute jump and five bungee jumps I can tell you this experience was like no other see the videos of it I was trying to look cool I was like okay know you did look cool I I couldn't contain that was my whole that was my whole thought process okay look you got to look calm you got to look cool but in reality I was freaking out like were you I don't know how you did I wasn't even think I was just thinking I want to survive cuz as soon as we went up you could already tell I was like what's going on here you the skin in our faces just it was crazy so tell them what happened so when we finished we got up and I you know they fleece you cuz you pay more because you want all the the video footage right so yeah I I don't know how many thousand I think it cost probably and half 33,000 I I I can't even remember I just paid but what happened then we we stumbled back to the car what's your memory remember we so the car was this we were like in this empty parking lot so we go back to the car and we're both sitting in the front seat dad reclines the chair all the way back I think we both do and we're in the car there we're just waiting for like half an hour cuz we're feeling so sick and nauseous we're like and I just said to you kayen this is what a really bad hangover feels like okay and it was this was far away from our hotel was like maybe like 45 minutes or like an hour so so we drove back we drove back we're in Vegas right so I get out the cab not the car sorry not the C the car I get out and I have to vomit really bad I so I run to the to the garbage bin vomit and what does the guy say he goes he goes oh it was a good night was it Lads cuz we we were coming in about 9:30 10:00 in the morning we out drinking and yeah having a good time what a day now what I then remember was mom wasn't feeling one we didn't realize that she probably already got Co yeah we got Co in that trip that was so she stayed back in the hotel and I took you and the the girls out and we went and had Shake Shack and I had tried to book tickets for the UFC por versus Char and I couldn't get tickets that they wouldn't accept my International credit card that's so we went there we went to the we went there and then I got the tickets and I thought wow we've actually got two and they were expensive tickets and then so I was just over the moon because the fight was later that night mommy had to look after the girls and uh but then when we turned up for the fight the tickets were not they were different they were different they actually they were better I think cuz she they were floor seeks but they weren't they were they weren't floor actually I think it was better cuz we wouldn't have been able to see if which event do you remember more that or the first one or the Conor people I remember different parts so I think I remember the fights actual fights what happened in the fights more for the Ala for was more recent right yeah but I remember the everything else that trip um the Las Vegas trip with the ples the ples and the UFC with Olivera and forier that was my favorite trip I think really of all time cuz it was all of us all five of us we hadn't traveled for over two years it was just so nice it just we got Co afterwards which is quite stress we flew into La we had a mad time in LA remember that that was a ridiculous tribute we doing so much it was like tell everyone what happened to like when we were in La there was two three days that would just stacked I think we did Disneyland we did dis Disneyland notb farm and an NBA game all two days yeah and and by the way there's a long drive in between Disney and uh the the yeah it was yeah actually sorry we did notb F then Disney and and then that night we did NBA yeah so we drove we stayed in a different Hotel drove to Vegas and then we drove from Vegas that was a long drive yeah we drove all the way to Utah and we stayed on a ranch in the mountains that was fun and then was so beautiful so check this out so me you and T went on a horse ride and the woman halfway up the mountain goes is anyone afraid of heights and I said yeah I am she goes oh okay and then kept going next thing we were riding we're like two Ines away from the like two in away with 100 foot plus maybe 1050t drop and I remember looking and I'm woring once for me but I'm woring 10x for you and Talia and Talia first then me then you I've got footage of it right and you look down it was like holy smoke that was so high like if the horse had done one wrong move we' fought you're gone you're gone you know but it's too late to say anything I didn't even know we were going up there got back I was just relieved that we finished and then yeah we drove we drove all the way down to Iona yeah and scale you know Scottdale and uh but before that we were in paage we were in Phoenix everywhere it was a really long trip really great trip right we all got Co well everyone got Co except for me yeah you were the last one to get actually so it was Christmas Eve and I saying to Mommy well we weren't supposed to stay there for Christmas remember to go back but cuz the rules were weird we were like okay I don't we're not sure if you have a certain type of Co forget I think it was Omicron omr you can't come back for 2 weeks so we had to stay and then um we got we got a place and we're having Christmas but it was a beautiful it couldn't have been it was the best of that bad scenario so I remember so I was cooking everything we all sat 10 ft apart right eating and it was actually I think it was my favorite CHR pad it was so nice it was really good really bone in riby and um so that was great we had a Christmas it was it was a great Lely great time great time yeah but then you and mommy had to stay a little bit longer cuz you finally got so I was last one I don't I don't think you got Co at all I didn't get so I was the last one to get it it was m and Nana then Talia and then I got it like on our last day when we were supposed to fly back and I remember we were supposed to be doing tests yeah can I tell the story it was a bit of a bad story to tell no don't tell okay but we cut that bit out yeah so we we're not sure if we're allowed to go home we cut that bit out Isaac so so Mom had to stay back with me so we went back to LA you guys and on back home mom and I are back in La mom is cure she's she's cure she's fine I'm I'm still I have Co so we're staying in this like Loft place where I'm up top and she's on the bottom just staying there for like 3 days LA and then I finally got better and then we finally came back War trip man yeah we've had some Monumental trips so let's talk about you know like now what do you want to do like um you want to make movies you want to become a filmmaker yeah I want to make a filmmaker but I'd prefer to I think I'm going to I'd ideally like to go into more television or like Series okaying in the sense cuz I think that honestly making movies is it's a dying it's a dying sort of cost you know what I mean I mean I think Netflix has changed everything cuz it's streaming also because there's no DVDs I remember who was talking about it I think it was Matt Damon yeah Matt Damon yeah and Ben affet was talking about AI the other day oh that yeah that's another thing that worries me because AI it's just getting so Advanced and it's sort of ruining the whole point of cating things art but you know I I I think going back to Ben aff's point he just you know he he described it really well but he was effectively saying that ultimately all it can do is replicate what the commands are right but the magic of people being in the like one of my favorite scenes in a movie is Jaws where Quint played by Robert Shaw is there probably drunken real life and he's talking about the USS USS inis all time right so you know you you put two or three great actors in a room and what I've learned about acting is you know truly the best actors they listen to to their fellow actor and they're reacting in the moment like they're experiencing it you so I I'm not worried about that and the reality is you might have ai based Productions but but you know ones about this actually about how AI it's sort of Ru if something's supposed to be extraordinary AI sort of ruins that it's it's just replicating as you said I actually have to do an essay about this in school I think it's quite interesting because it sort of ruins everything special about it know creating art is supposed to be this whole it's amazing thing but then it sort of it takes away the I'm struggling to find the word I had a word in my mind no but the authenticity yes right and uh so whil it listen AI is brilliant I don't think I'm not worried about it especially in the art of movie making but I think there will be a niche because there's too much mass production at the moment so like when I grew up I can tell you know like you you're a fan of the Cobra Kai series but maybe Frid kid yeah so the first movie that I ever watched that I can remember in the cinema was C Kid 2 so I saw kk2 before kk1 and you know it completely changed my life cuz I fell in love with Japan um which I'm still very much in love with I fell in love with martial ARs and KY my dad hated Daniel son because he thought he was a wussy um but you know and then I then obviously I watched c kid ju then I watched all the Jean Claude vanam movies and it so many J CL we got I have some of them in my room some posters I mean it's just it's just uh so Greatful that was a different time though because that was it's sort of we don't really see martial arts movies like that anymore not really like Karate Kid but all the John CLA vanam um you know all those types of action films I love it man I Absol I love it I love it and I just grew up with those guys the loone swartzenegger vanam and that completely shaped who I am what I do um one of the things I wanted to talk about is you know I've I've always believed in like I know you're going to be a fantastic driver right Sean if you're listening to this I think Kaden can take you mate couple of rounds of go-kart training but in all seriousness what I was going to say to you is if you think about it every time you've had the opportunity to do something you've stepped up so I said to you hey Kate I want to shoot these commercial videos these corporate videos comp fory You' hadn't done it before so we created a storyboard we talked about it and then I just gave you the keys to the car figuratively speaking then you were managing a collective group of 40 50 year olds men and women and this is my memory tell me what you thought I I was watching you and you know I'm a massive massive Clint Eastwood fan and I'd watched the documentary about not just his acting his film making as a director and you reminded me of him because he's very cerebral very quiet he just you know quietly directs everybody and it just if it was me I would be said do this do that all right you know what I'm like and you just made it flow so seemingless you did it at home you did it in the office did a tremendous job what was your take on that I think I mean it was definitely different from like making making like a film because it's not really story based there's no dialogue yeah it's more of telling a story imag it's like making a silent movie almost so I think the shots I wanted to make them dynamic because it was for your website so I didn't want it to be still cuz it' be boring you wanted Dynamic shots that filled all off all off your iPhone yeah fast which we got done pretty very fast yeah which I love mhm love efficiency and then just showing what you're trying to sell you know your career coaching which is great cuz we actually show these people who look like they're interested I mean they look like they're interested they were interested but they interested I was giving them the lyrics by course yeah yeah and that was I think that was a great experience I think that was my first time on sort of a more official sort of set where I'm sort of in charge yeah so i' had been in charge of maybe my my YouTube stuff with my friends before but that was about it that wasn't really that was like with an iPad yeah and all but this was with proper equipment a proper big crew with adults yeah I think it was a bit nerve-wracking at first because really I couldn't tell you that you were nervous but I was bit nervous cuz there's so many adults and like okay it's all on me now like cuz they're adults and I you know I got to show that H this clip afterwards Isaac so the intro it's a quential podcast that's your whole production that's your edit it's brilliant now the podcast so when I said to you look Kade I want to set up the podcast this is what it's like you're you're the guy that's sat down and curated all of this whole setup and the scenery I'm very proud of you well done man you know but how how have you found that experience I found it's actually been very interesting I think so we did a lot of research um Isaac and I into the isa's done a great job working with you right because when you're not there filming he's he's behind the camera so we did a lot of research into the way that podcasts look so we looked at many popular podcasts like the show Rogan podcast and sort of so we saw there are three cameras set up here I'm just going to look at them we got one set up there one set up there one set up there so one would be looking at you yeah you know the host and then one will be looking at me the guest then one will be looking at both of us and that's sort of simple that basic idea sort of evolved now we have all this equipment we have a slider over there to have more Dynamic shots during the podcast yeah we have various lighting sources to um you know change the lighting because sometimes depending on the weather and because this is a big open space um it'll change the setting it'll change the way we talk and the way we look which I think is important and also the great thing about having all this equipment is that it gives me a lot of access to create films at home I'm very blessed for that so I don't have to keep borrowing stuff from the school and by the way I'll let me bring you back to maybe a year or two ago you say mommy daddy um I want to film a movie it's a kind of who's done it and somebody's going to get murdered not literally but you know at the party so I need to Stage a large house party it'll be like 40 50 607 a big party yeah well basically it was a big excuse I mean I know you were filming we were filming but there were a lot of problems that day I regret filming it the way we did well I think you had two goals number one to throw a party number two to invite all the very attractive ladies yes of course you know that was part of it was it yeah but the thing is cuz because it was an actual party and we were filming at an actual party yeah cuz I'm the host I had to deal with all the host things like some girl went off somewhere but the the problem was because it was a party you couldn't do proper filming yeah do you know what I mean I think some bits were well done so it got the atmosphere the part we got lots of b-roll for shortage but then also we were distracted because you you know you can't really focus in a setting like that no and so we lost some a we didn't even attach the mic to the cameras of some parts um so that's a shame that was a good experience though so let's talk about the Productions that you got up and coming in the two or three projects that you're really focused on right so I got three short films all by myself indie films not by myself but you know you've written them written them so the first one that I'm most excited about is a fan film a Batman fan film film so Batman is my favorite um comic book character and I think there have been so many iterations of him which is why there's so much like there's so much argument or discussion about who's the best Batman but I think every Batman sort that has something good or bad about it come on man there's only one Christan Bale but you have to admit the other Batman do actually bring something to the table that the but it's not even Christian Bale it's just it's Christopher Nolan I mean the man's on another level it's almost too well written it's like every single line I could put in a poster it's just so fantastic so so when does production start on this um tomorrow tomorrow so filming some so you're playing ban I was born in the dark I don't think we're going to do that voice raised in it and I'll be playing young Bruce Wayne so this is sort of an origin story um Batman's origin story and I think what's interesting about this is that firstly I'm going to be experimenting a lot with a few different things so I'll be getting back to action I haven't done an action film in a long time yeah I think the great thing about filming a fight scene between the two of us and now that we have all this camera equipment now that I know a lot more about film yeah it'll be a lot more nuanced and especially we have to stretch so we can do some kicks and all otherwise I need I need I need a couple of hours me too how are you going to deal with the height difference I mean b is shorter but not as I'm I'm a lot shorter than you so I'm going to squat and I'll have a very wide stance okay uh so that'll be fun I think that'll also get that'll basically bring a large audience to watch it because if you just Google everyone loves Batman everyone wants to see Batman so I think that'll be fun and we're going to have settings so we've got potentially Hong Kong yeah Hong Kong but in Hong Kong we've got three or four SCS planed but the thing is because I think one of the things I do very well as as compared to a lot of my classmates and film is I'm ready to improvise yeah so I always have a backup plan for my backup plan or I can come up with it like if it's raining for filming outdoors I have another idea well and it's tough cuz we're on holiday with the and your mom so so I mean the good thing is we have lots of lovely camera I keep looking at the camera sorry right lovely um film equipment to use I've written out the storyboard and I've been doing a lot of research in different ways I want to film this but by the way a lot of people that are might watch this that have uh that want to do some film making we've not actually spent a lot of money on like these mics were middle of the range we didn't buy the Sha mics right the cameras are actually inexpensive the challenge is we've haven't gone with expensive lenses so and and actually all the corporate videos were filmed on your iPhone which is amazing okay so that's project one project two project two is a very short project uh this is a bit of an artsy one it's about this guy who falls in love with himself and I think it's a reflection of of Me no I'm joking uh but it's it's sort of it's a reflection of social media and sort of the idea that oh you're just you know self-reliance yeah and so in this film it's a bit Arts SE it's a bit out there did you get this idea after you got your first modeling gig recently no I had this idea before that actually okay so it it was actually a joke I made once cuz someone said I was in love with my reflection so of course I'm not they thought you a narcissist yeah so it's about this guy who basically hangs out with a bunch of his friends and it's a bit it's a bit out there it's a bit artsy um but he would much prefer to be by himself and then one day he um his he has a clone it just appears out of nowhere and now he basically falls in love with his clone and it's it's this like Love Story almost but it's so warp it's almost like Black Mirror okay it's a really twisted oh man that sounds good that's going to be risk I love it yeah third project third project this is one I'm probably most excited for in the sense that I think it's the most nuan story-wise and it's the most creative workout of the L Batman's an already thing and then Batman's an already great a character um the self-love story with the guy who falls in love with himself it's a very short story it's not very deep it's like it'll be maybe 5 10 minutes tops oh really the next one this is I don't know what the title will be yet I have a few working ideas it's about this um this brother this guy who was maybe like 30 or whatever and so his parents got divorced when he was young he's been living with his mom after his mom dies he goes to live with his dad right or to see his dad and his dad's remarried and he has his half brother and he's met his half brother a few times but now there he's living there with him and he's getting closer and closer and he's realized that his dad and uh his dad's wife have just been spoiling those little kids they've been encouraging bad behavior they've been letting it slide all the time which is ridiculous and this actually leads to a lot of bad things like he starts becoming a criminal and his parents sort of covering it up or encouraging it oh dear and it's it's it's almost like a thriller it's twisted and I kind of like that I was inspired by a few different things I watched I think I think that sounds brilliant I want I want you to explore different genres you know so if we get a chance to do another father and son trip we've talked about that maybe we'll save that spoiler um but if you can do different things and the wonderful thing is you can always look back at it and the plethora of work because unequivocally um I can see you setting up your own production company and um you know maybe I can act in a couple of them love for you to act a few of them and you also we also talked about something that you wanted to remate you wrote something like I wrote something so that that would be interesting if we could make that because that's that's quite gripping that's full on um let's just touch upon universities without specifically mentioning any Unis you know Mommy and I have talked to you about the possibility of studying abroad there three countries that we're looking at that specifically what are you looking at um the UK uh the US and Canada I think those are the top those are the top three I mean the exposure I think would be brilliant and like I I've said to you many times I think getting a chance to get out there you know Singapore will always be and I think one of the best gifts you guys could have given me is I don't have to like worry about supporting you guys as you had to do with your family that means I get to go Chas my dreams SP more and thank you for that my pleasure son that's that's what we want and I was St M some you know you know I had a very complex relationship with my father and I loved him dearly but it was almost like he he created competition between he and I which I never really understood because even like he was a phenomenally strong man um I remember when I was 21 and I had to do we were pushing something and I couldn't move it and he was in his late 50s and he'd had a stroke you know he was in all sorts of medication um but he was still stronger than me right and he was very very strong um but I never really got it because you know like I said to you the other day I said the perhaps the only man that you'll ever meet that wants you to be better than him in every single way Dad is me what's other thing you said about when you're father you humanize them what say that yeah it was a great quote that I heard which I really related to which hopefully you don't relate to but typically when you have a a mixed relationship with your father you you tend to idolize them when you're younger and then you tend to demonize them as you get a little bit older and then when they pass away you humanize M right which is in many ways how I felt or feel about my dad I I put that to rest I mean I I really think that he did the best by me uh he was phenomenally hard on me and I but the weird thing is is like my younger brother Stephen who's physically a specimen in his own right he was very gifted Sportsman more with technical Sports I look back you know I always almost like TI now in the sense that TI's physically you know what I mean she's yeah then yeah well people wouldn't think that looking at her right now they they couldn't necessarily tell but she is a beast but you know I was uh I think my my dad always relied on me and I helped my father from a very young age as did my brother um but my dad had a stroke when he was 14 and I you when you were 14 so yeah and I remember he you know one day he said to me um your mother and I are going away for the long weekend um I want you to cut a hole in the wall and put up the door Frank and I think I was I I was young and I might have been 17 18 and um here's the disc cutter so you didn't know how to do that I knew I to yeah he never showed me I just watched him so he never taught me how to use it so I I I go and measure everything up with a chalk line level do everything get the disc cut out think I'm doing a great job enjoying it and we basically it's red brick I've plastered the whole living room and the adjacent room uh that I'm cutting the whole cutting a hole in the wall right it just told me whereabouts it was and I thought oh I'm I'm going to be in huge trouble and I went took all my pocket money went and bought paint and then I finished the job by putting up you know uh plastic t uh tape and top to cover it all up U but I remember just doing so many difficult things and my dad was just you know he he taught me how to to use a machine like a JCB in 5 minutes you always expect you know he was a phenomenal driver um what am I hidden talent so most people don't know is I'm a phenomenal driver you know I'm really proud since I was 18 I haven't had any points um you know remember that time in om man that was crazy that was crazy that was ridiculous what a journey that was let's let's tell them about this so what happened so we so no man at the time I don't know how it is now but there were no signs anywhere about where to go so we're supposed to be going to this Turtle Sanctuary right no this was different so we're going up we're staying in the view which is up at the top of mountain so we thees GPS is telling us go this way but there's no road so we're kind of just riding up this this hill on a mountain up a mountain and it's it's getting kind of dark I mean it's getting kind of late and then we we get there and we're in a random Village no we by the way listen we've given up it's higher if you look down there's a 200t drop and the sun the Sun is setting yeah but wait that was after was you get to the Village right okay and then these people are like who are you what are you doing and there were goats yeah so they're upset we're there we're in the wrong place obviously then we have to turn the car around and go back down on the side of M that's when the sun started setting that's what was scary and I had bright I had to look out the window because that head out the window like that cuz it reflect so and then I remember that that was crazy and we when we drove in the sand there was a convoy of three cars we were following the leader and she's used to driving in the sand it's very different the guy behind us and I I've you probably won remember this I said he's going too slow he's going and I never driven on the sand but I just overtook him and he got stuck I just I think I do remember that yeah that was also cool we wrod cams we did we did a drive that it was again it was on your birthday this time you know all those years ago I think it your 12 birthday and and I remember driving at night we were going like the clappers so we stayed we got these beautiful camels we stayed in this private it was glamping at the max right cuz if we had a private toilet outside very nice Arabian Nights you even had a birthday cake I had a couple of cigars we had the shisha there it was I mean you wer doing that but and we did a traditional lamb in in the ground Y what an adventure yeah um son I'm very proud of you the the we we sparred not that long ago and I said to you hey I'm going to come see you and uh you had just done a 9-minute boxing session wrecked you were wrecked hold my hands up yeah I had a I don't normally eat lunch but I had a fat lunch and I'd had a fizzy drink had a a ginger ale and I remember thought okay and I said mate do you want you know want to do a couple of rounds and one of your coaches with there pretty pretty was cracking up and you go Dad I don't want to hurt you I said what you think you're going to hurt me you go and to be honest I was quite worried cuz I was so wrecked like I was I was about to throw up I was I didn't know you were that wrecked I was that wrecked pry push pushes you hard condition like so then so then uh I didn't warm up I was wearing my jeans and my trainers and so put on some gloves and and there a small ring which also I think I was bit worried about cuz that's sort of where you would shine you know well I I just thought you know what was this before after my operation was after that was after it was April right so I basically foolishly I've not even thrown a jab so actually like that that's a problem for me right so um I remember saying and I just thought it's easy I just move boom boom boom I'm inside you Duff you up to the body push you off and then go back and I just thought that would be it I thought that's I keep you won't even be able to touch me but you know I'm old now right so all this is what happened before I took one step mhm you hit me five I think five times you said it was three I don't really remember I remember I think it was a double jab cross and then another jab I wasn't throwing any all maybe it's was four all I know was and then and I was like what the and then I that ring is really small like if I basically if I took two STS from my hand out like that I'm it's the whole ring yeah and I was like and I I I can't even remember moving forward I don't even remember what happened so I said it's going to be like that is it and then but actually I was hurt and then at that point I was already bre everyone else sort of that that year before that couldn't push me around you shov you shoved me I couldn't move at all yeah just into the corner and then you tried throwing but because I tried throwing every time I tried to throw I missed you by about a country mile I was actually very happy with that that you missed me so much cuz I was like oh [ __ ] if this hits me I'm just going to hurt right and I didn't have a mouth guard or anything I was no head guard I was ready I I was like I was I was I I mean you have a bad shoulder so like you can only really throw one one punch really a big right hand so then so then then what happened at the end of it I said Well Done son and then you go you're right and I said M I'm destroyed I need to sit down but I'm so I walk back to the office cuz the office is close by I sat in the car yeah I had to have a I had to ask Isaac to bring me a cold bottle of water and I stayed there for about half an hour and then I drove home that at that time of day that ride is 21 minutes on average 45 minutes and then I got back and for the next four days I was wrecked as in here but for the next 4 hours that night and I text you and I remember saying I watch out you said Son you whoop me I'm wrecked I'm so proud of you well done and then the funny thing is you went straight out that night you've been at school all day you've been I had to go um watch my friends play it yeah and I just thought how's he still St and I was just and for four days I had whiplash um but look I couldn't be prouder look at the fine man that you've become thank you you know you've you've uh on your 13th birthday when you became a teenager I said in many ways you're you're already a man um back then which I genuinely believe I I look at you with great pride you know in some ways you've been a a project an ongoing project now your sisters it's it's their turn um people say where did you get your hey from they always laugh but you know the truth is I'm shorter than my dad and my brother not by much and my dad always had me up you know 5:00 in the morning let me sleep in none of that and what I'm really proud of that people may not realize you and Talia have never had any serious injuries you know I had so by the time I was 12 you know had damaged both heels torn both hamstrings I had Oscar slatus disease on my knee and I was out for six months um I'm I'm just curious you know like uh if we were to make an action movie together and someone was to be cast as the villain or the the hero well actually I think I mean it historically you've always been the villain and I've always been the hero that's the way it's been but actually I think it work better if we were it was more like a buddy cop movie for the two of us working together as compared to it um it I would like to do an action comedy I feel like there aren't enough of those anymore yeah you know with you and me you and I sorry that would be that would be funny what about what about um what about if we were to do a sparring match what what role would M play if she was the referee what would she say she let me she let me get you a little bit she would say on she would she would let me she encourage it let she would even let me cheat like if I threw an elbow if it was a boxing match she would mine yeah she would mine everyone is fine with me getting battered yeah what the hell um let's talk about your relationship with your mother because you and Mom are like two peas in a pot and always have been and before you answer this she said this maybe two years ago which i' never heard her say but you filled a void in a heart after a dad suddenly died because we had you not long after that but you have to have a special mention to mom yeah your relationship very kind she's very sweet she's a saint like we're we crazy family let's be honest we're we're nuts uh but mom is really aane she's the most normal which is I mean she's not even that normal but we're we're part nuts she's really she's the most nuts in the family it used to be you but now everyone's kind of getting close who's who's second T me you I think it's me T's actually is probably the most normal but she's nuts in a different way almost yeah it's just it's it's it's weird it's like it's difficult to describe and explain yeah yeah I know it's interesting do you have any questions for me about live business or anything yeah so I mean what actually really got you wanting to do the podcast what started all this cuz you came to me and you were like I want to make a podcast but what really out of everything podcast is quite specific so you know I don't talk about work too much but in my job as a head hunter um I'm kind of hidden because most candidates can't acknowledge that they know me cuz if their boss knows they know me they get nervous and of course I've placed them and so typically it's only my corporate client so that's one two as part of my career coaching I help people optimize their LinkedIn and and in fact um an interesting number a percentage of the top 10 voices on LinkedIn in my area private banking are actually career coaching clients of mine MH and the interesting thing that I realized was well look if I'm helping everyone else get this publicity once I yeah my goal is to establish credibility built a lovely setup in our home yeah you know our it looks great like honestly it's very credit to you and Isaac right but we'll have to show a clip of you doing this cuz what people don't realize we have to take it up and take it down this is normally our living room but then it's now it's this gets upset when I when I keep it there for a couple of days right yes so no but what it was was I just really thought it starts with the guests because most of the people that I know in particular in private banking they're such interesting people and I've had the fortune to become friends with a lot of these guys so I I just want to give their backstory cuz nine times out of 10 people only know them as you're giving a voice all these people who in other otherwise wouldn't be able to talk about their stories yeah and and cuz I know all these people intimately and I thought that was interesting I wanted to differentiate myself as a subject matter expert and a lot of people don't even know that I do career coaching right um and you helped me I created 13 videos so if someone's going for an appraisal or a pay rise you know how do they do that videos helped a lot yeah yeah so so that that was it and also you know me I like a new challenge and I you know something that I always say to you like how I do anything is how I do everything so I want to always show you guys by example um to try something new right and you know I was raised in in I don't know why my brother and I grew up very confident that's my your mom always says that perhaps Steven and I are overconfident she said that Mom my mom's eulogy and I wonder why cuz I think my mom and dad they believed in us but they also there were limitations based on you know how Paul you're not that academic you're dyslexic you know there's probably limitation how far you can take this or setting up my own business and and your mom's very conservative and for me it's like you know I I wanted to become a millionaire before I became 30 I realized that I couldn't pursue well I didn't pursue I couldn't I wouldn't say I couldn't if I had my time again Kade and I don't like to look back and negatively look at anything or what would I do different but as a father of three kids I have to use what I've learned and you know when I was your age I was a toilet cleaner and then had worked in recruitment full-time now for 30 years and I did all these different jobs but I would have pursued my sports um you know I would have tried to become a world champion boxer if MMA was around unequivocally I would have done that um I would love to have seen how far I could take it because I think naturally I'm very gifted physically you really are yeah even now guys if you see videos of him like he's he's got a bad shoulder but he's still doing some mad things see him doing dips and pull-ups and stuff yeah I mean it's uh it's weird though because you know just seen that Mike Tyson fight and hearing see what age does to you it's just it's like I can't do things in the way that I used to and even though I'm in theory in good shape it's different yeah you know I can't chalk and cheese from what you were before can't do anything right so like um in the past I could do over 40 pull-ups without a warmup you know now I think and and you know people always say if you can do 20 or a really good athlete but yeah before I was busting over 40 one of the things that I used to do as a training regimen which people struggle to believe is I would do 100 push-ups with 60 seconds in between each set I'd do five sets 100 60 seconds 100 and by the end of it my nips were hurting it was that intense um but so I say that to you to pursue your dreams right and go all in right and I always break down what you're about to do be in sports or whatever uh be It Boxing or be in acting like I always say look watch the greates right understand timing um so if you're watching boxing you know I can I can sit back and tell you yeah whenever we're watching USC or boxing you can literally before the commentator say it before it happens you always call it out I can anticipate most of the moves right and the one thing I always didn't agree with in conventional martial arts wisdom was these were the set moves but if more often than not the unorthodox things are what works that's it when you don't see them everyone trains for you know the Orthodox things what your the proper technique but if it's something weird and random that's the thing and I and that's what I teach when I teach sales people is what I do when I work with young men like you and look the one thing is if you look at all the people that you box with you know even at times these guys are your competitors I've said well look if you were going to war tomorrow you know uh for Singapore you'd want those Brothers next to you because and they share many of the same dreams as you cuz they're getting up 4 5:00 in the morning and running they're cutting weight they're doing all that but the one thing I I think you know I've always tried to do is I've always messaged your friends win lose a draw congratulations keep your chin up you know um because I think it's important for young people to hear that and have support you know because the truth is in life more often than not we lose more than we win right and how you bounce once you reach drop bottom is a very important part of life um and I'm glad that you've you've met so many unconventional people through Sports through boxing and also through S like honestly like actually if you think about it the fact that I know some people in this circle and this circle they're so different it's crazy that know I know both of them simultaneously well the thing is when I did acting you know I set up the drama club in high school primarily to meet girls right don't tell your mom but um the one thing that I learned about that was The Stereotype of someone is an act a thespian back then and especially now is well you know you got to be a feminist not but hold on who's one of the biggest movie stars today the rock yeah all the guys that I idolized right and if you look at Sylvester Stallone his story before before Matt Damon and Ben Affleck you know wrote his own script sold it started it insisted that he stared it had to sell his dog bought his dog back you know and and I just think you know I fell in love with movies I've got friends you know Uncle Fidelis one of the movies that he watched um when he was a young man completely changed his life and I can tell you about every time I watched the movie the impact it had watching a movie with my father you know brings people together and and like you and I love to sit down watch things um so okay but what in terms of in terms of you know the types of movies you want to make different genres few different genres so I think the first genre that I fell in love with was action I think what really made me fall in love with that I mean I was always interested in it but when we watch Mission imp possible Fallout in the cinema you inalia brilliant it's fantastic um I also I love fantasy and sci-fi that was probably my first love in terms of writing so when I was like 11 I actually I have I have a copy of in my room where I was writing out basically a Harry Potter ask story yeah and I was planning to publish it but I didn't in the end also I can't really read it my handwriting it's not very good yeah but say that again mate it's gotten worse with time actually funny enough jeez um yeah fantasy sci-fi I love all that like Star Wars funny enough I well I love Star Wars I'm actually not too interested in the story very much I'm actually more interested in the original trilogy and how they made it I just think it's so revolutionary so iconic it's fantastic I love watching the behind the scenes love it MH now for for a lot of the people that I speak to that have kids that are your age and younger they often ask me well how did you guide your son on this journey but let me turn that around like what lessons have you you learn and what what are you what have you striving to try to continue to do well well I think from I mean from a parents point of view I think it's you have to find a weird balance cuz more often than not when you're trying to push somebody to do something like trying to push T me we don't want to do it cuz we don't want we want to be doing it on our own accord but at the same time if you don't push us then you're not guiding us so it's this weird balance you have to find this weird middle ground and it's actually very difficult have you noticed though with you and I it's changed because I used to push and needle you pull you right now there's a lot more like I want it's it's internal now I keep wanting to do it like I wake up every day I want to work out you know I want to do all these things and I think that's great but I think it also changes depending on your child because you know you can't you can't have this set method for everybody it has to change like it's different for T and I the only thing mama and I really disagree about or argue about is the kids right and we have different parenting Styles I think that's actually probably what they compliment each other cuz they're so they're starkly different but at the same time how are they different what is M okay it's it's different for each kid as well like actually funny enough mom is more chill with me than you are and you're actually more chill with t than mom is funny enough say that again as in you think you think that you're the father would be overprotective of the daughter and the same thing for the mother and son actually but you know why Talia is like me I know what she's like and you're like Mommy actually I think I'm a lot more like you than no I think cuz I'm an introvert too mom's not I mean both of you are kind of introverted but it's it's different like Mom would encourage me to go out and hang out with friends yeah but you sort of understand and you're actually you want me home early like well I'm just worried you because all you know the stuff that can go out your mom as a woman right um has not seen like what a young man you know most young guys can end up in a in a in a fist fight you know or drinking alcohol and you know I want you to stay on track and and I'm conscious that things can go wrong in the blink of an eye right and um so that that's the only real reason and again your mom not really pursuing Sports doesn't understand that if you don't if you lose you lose a day you lose a week no it's you you you know you if you were to go out drinking tomorrow next two days you're ruined right and stay ready like you you and you and I I keep telling you we got to stay in shape MH 24/7 yeah be ready mhm and I think another thing that you guys do differently it's sort of what you push us in sort of like Mom I guess used to always push me academically and you push me physically but now it's neither of you really have to do that that much cuz I I I just want to do it you're fully cooked mate but then tyia on the other hand for example you guys feel they need to push her more you know what I mean cuz you you feel they need to push her physically she's younger yeah yeah same thing that happened I think another thing was probably my experience uh so we were talking about earlier I was struggling a lot in school I actually never paid attention in class till 2022 not once I would always talk in class jeez K I didn't know that mate never once I would study like I would maybe pay attention 25% of the class so in year three in SOA 2021 I um I think I failed three subjects I failed geography math and chemistry chemistry I got something like 20% math I got like 35% geography was a barely failed but anyway I failed overall so I was meant to repeat the year now sua does that actually quite often uh but I was very lucky very fortunate you guys uh managed I managed to advance onto the next year and that sort of just that was a wake up College a swift kick in the ass so kick in the butt sorry yeah uh yeah I think I just after that that I started paying attention in class I started actually studying consistently I think that I honestly think it's is really weird it's like no size fits all like you have to you have to sort of tailor it that's the pun I'm wearing the suit well talking about that suit tell us so quickly about that suit what your way break it down head to toe what's what's the crack so we went to go get a suit fitted and tailored thank you very much but you didn't know it was a surprise I didn't know it was a surprise uh we went out for lunch um so what happened was you measured me and thing is I feel like my weight fluctuates quite a lot so this shirt is feeling tighter than it was before as much as me son I'll tell you everything here is tailored so the pants this is my first time having a pair of tailored pants before I had um I would wear my school pants with a Zara Blazer that's what I would wear for my suit but this is very very nice um we got these boots from Pedro they're very nice dad got me a watch as a birthday present thank you beautiful now if you I don't know if you can see this but you can do that side maybe that side yeah I don't know if you can see this there's a quote here sorry this is it says my name my nickname quiner Quin and here it is a quote from my late grandmother which I think is a lovely quote that we should all Listen to I don't think no better say it but it's you can show it cut cut to it it says life is what you make it which basically means you know just make the most of life and you wrote that on mirror your grandma constant said that how did you feel about Grandma like so we got a I had had gone back like three or four times that year and I had just gotten back that the the day before and the district nurse called me and said look I don't think your mom's got long and I I said well we're coming in four weeks time she goes I don't think it was two weeks time when you finished your exams that was it after your boxing match and uh so that's what it was only two week different and then she said no no I think you need to come now so I called my brother we all flew in um and then what's really crazy was it was the last time we saw her and she died less than two weeks later I think I was very fortunate so the year before we went to um Ireland and you guys went out a lot because I was I was still studying I was coming off that filed year yeah I was studying a lot so I was very fortunate and very grateful that I spent a lot of time with Grandma in the mornings alone just one yeah because you guys would go out and she was um wheelchair bound she was struggling to to walk so it was nice to spend time with her I talked to her a lot then like a lot asked her so many questions it was just it's a nice time and then when we saw her at the very end the last time the last couple days we saw her that was really sad that was like terrible yeah but it was lovely to have everybody there together I think it was just lovely Time to Say Goodbye I love that house is beautiful I think that might be the most my favorite place we visited house in Ireland yeah so pretty yeah it was very sad but I think she all she gave nuggets of wisdom yeah sorry she gave us little nuggets of wisdom all of us oh she was a tough woman tough very very tough and I learn a lot from her it's weird I used to argue with Mom quite quite often I think I blamed her for my father you know giving out to me the whole time I think she was I always say my mom was surrounded in a house of three alpha males yet she had the loudest voice and uh although my brother now tells me that he realizes that he's more a lover and you know my dad and I were probably the alphas I was the alpha I've always been the alpha but I I you know when I look at the way that I try to encourage you and support you and nurture you it's difficult CU I'm preparing you for what is ahead you know and the funny thing is when I coach people I train people I I say look in martial arts and boxing if you don't listen to what what I'm teaching you you're going to get knocked out you're going to get hurt but you know people don't realize that and and verbally they're sparring they get knocked out they don't even realize it the client just won't talk to them again um but I I think she'd be so proud to see look look at look at look at you when we got your suit made I was literally in tears you know not massively but just thinking wow but yeah Grandma's very interesting very interesting very good woman remember that story so one time so Dad and I we love doing wind ups a pranks this is a classic so I was think I was young I was maybe 14 this was just after I I kissed that girl on that TV show I think so we'd come up Dad come up with a story Kaden I dare you to call both your grandmothers speak phone yeah speaker phone um you know tell them that you're seeing an older girl and that she wants you for your body that was this is we're just messing around right we're at dinner one night and then so we call Grandma Dolly so mom's Mom first and she's she knowes not she's a she's an old fash Indian woman and she starts shouting kiden what are you talking about can now break your legs and she got she got vexed she was mad break your legs yeah we all started laughing cuz it was like she's very calm normally but she was she she lost it she lost it mate okay and then we told her was a prank poor grandma she has to deal with all yeah she gets and then let me call Grandma Constance uh dad's mom and she was very pragmatic she like she paused for a moment well Kaden if you feel the need to hide it from your parents then you probably shouldn't be doing it and it was very calm very calm and Collective which is also also like so you know it's it was so it's really interesting I think that's the way we should look at things cuz if you go in there angry like Grandma Dolly did as compared to going there you know Cal well it deescalate everything but I think Mom having me as her son and Chris as her husband there were were problems there were a lot of challenges right so I think she learned over time uh but she used she used to have a fierce temper I me you know you've I don't know you've seen it your mom a few times remember that jez with the dust bin the dusts that was ridiculous yeah um but I think you know the interesting thing that I've I've uh I tried to learn and it it's taken me till now to try to stay calm and remain you've gotten much better with time you're actually we very calm you handle things we we don't give you enough credit for how your mom doesn't give me any credit for all these all these things that we when we've had to deal with I've been enough you've been the calmer one you've been the more you got on cam you said it bro I said it for her mom too yeah she doesn't believe it but Mom gets I think Mom gets very emotional when it comes to us and she loses her temper a little bit when it comes to like protecting so let's wrap up so do you want to ask me any questions okay so I'm going to give you this question it's sort of something I just thought of yeah it's a weird analogy so let me explain it if your life is a boxing match and you know the beginning of your life is round one or whatever what round of the boxing match are you in like what stage 12 round fight mhm probably round eight round eight I'm not in the championship rounds yet which are rounds 11 and 12 MH um that's a great question man great question what round are you in say maybe round two yeah I think you're in round two bro CU I feel like the f I mean I don't know it's a different it's you have to sort of Define what what counts as round one what counts as the stuff before the fight yeah or before the life so I mean cuz I feel like I'm just sort of beginning I've just finished school which I think was I sort of Trapped in for a long time cuz I've yeah it's not really been my thing but I did try towards the end really I didn't try really hard before but the last three years pushing you've been working for en normally hard yeah I agree with you round two son I'm super proud of you mate um I'm I'm so excited for the future ahead of you and uh whatever happens mommy and I behind you 100% thank you Dad you know I love you love you thanks very much for having me on the podcast it's been appreciate it cheers mate thank you [Music] a
