Sally Gunnell OBE is one of Britain’s most celebrated athletes, having won Olympic gold in the 400m hurdles at Barcelona 1992 and, a year later, the World Championship title in Stuttgart in a world-record time of 52.74 seconds. She remains the British record holder and is the only woman to have simultaneously held the Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth titles in the 400m hurdles. Her journey began in Essex, where she grew up on a farm and initially competed in the long jump and 100m hurdles before moving up to the 400m hurdles.
Since retiring from athletics, Sally has built a career around translating the lessons of elite sport into everyday life. She has become a respected keynote speaker, broadcaster and advocate for resilience, confidence and performing under pressure, drawing on her own experiences of competition, setbacks and the intense psychological demands of elite sport. Today, her focus has evolved towards strength, wellbeing and longevity, particularly for women navigating midlife and beyond. Through Life’s Hurdle, the platform she founded with her son Luca, Sally combines exercise, mindset, nutrition, accountability and community to help women build sustainable habits and feel stronger and more confident in their lives.
