Lim Yao Xiang is a multi-sport SEA Games athlete, coach, and co-founder of GritYard. He learned to swim at nine years old and within two years was representing Singapore at national youth level. After a decade in competitive swimming, he discovered fin swimming at 21, won the Singapore trial the following day, and went on to claim a SEA Games gold medal. He then pivoted to water polo — a sport he had never played competitively — and within eighteen months represented Singapore at three SEA Games. Returning to fin swimming at 40, he broke both national and World Masters records competing against athletes who had trained in the sport since childhood. Beyond competition, Yao Xiang spent over a decade as a Physical Education teacher and swimming and water polo coach at Raffles Institution, guiding his girls' A Division water polo team to six championships in six seasons. He currently serves as Team Coach at the Singapore Swimming Association and coach at Chinese Swimming Club. Together with his brother, he co-founded GritYard, a training gym built on the belief that being athletic is a concept, not a person.
